24 Level Waterfall is a natural spring that flows through 24 levels of rocks before falling on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park in the district of Sei Musam, Langkat. It takes about 4 hours to get there from Medan. To see it on the map, click here.

The 24 Level Waterfall is unique because it passes so many levels before getting to the ground. The height of each level varies from 5 meters (16 ft) to 30 meters (98 ft). You need to take a steep walkway to be able to get to the pool and swim. The water is clear, cold, and fresh. The depth of the pond varies, but the deepest part is 6 meters (20 ft).
What to Enjoy
The 24 Level Waterfall offers the experience of swimming, meeting wild animals, and trekking. The swimming pool of the waterfall is reachable partly by car, and the rest by motorbike. However, upon arrival at the location, your tiredness of driving and riding is immediately paid off by the waterfall’s natural beauty. There, you can play as much water as you like while jumping from the top lip of the level 1 waterfall into the fountain.
You can also enjoy the waterfall while watching wild animals in the forest, such as birds, monkeys, orangutans, gibbons, and so forth. If you want to bathe in warm water, then there is a hot spring nearby.
Not only that, you have a chance to experience much more in the jungle. If you are fit, get up to the top. And, to get to the 24th level, you need to walk through the hills of the forest for about an hour (guided by local residents).
What to Expect
You are required to follow a guide at all times in this area. In addition to guiding the journey, he also processes a permit for you to enter Gunung Leuser National Park. There is no food and beverages counter near the waterfall, so bring them along. Entrance fee is Rp 35,000 ($ 2.50).
